Cooperativa de Seguros Múltiples (CSM) announced the opening of the great exposition “Puerto Rican Art: Image of a Culture, at the Puerto Rico Art Museum's (MAPR) Santander Room. This exhibition commemo-rates the 25 th year of CSM's Puerto Rican Art Collection. Puerto Rican Art: Image of a Culture, is part of around 82 works of CSM's collection which is composed of more than 600 works, created by Puerto Rican artists of various generations. At this exposition works by artists of the ‘50's Generation, such as Rafael Tufiño, Myrna Báez, Lorenzo Homar and Olga Albizu, will be exhibited, among others.
In the same manner works by such veteran artists as Arnaldo Roche Rabell and Rafael Trelles and young artists such as Angélica Rivera and Carlos Santiago, will be included.
An emblematic work for the Puerto Rican Art Collection, created exclusively for this commemorative exposition by master artist Nelson Sambolín, will also be exhibited. This piece gives the works that form part of the collection a distinctive touch by the artist, who symbolically interlaced these works with a showy palette of colors.
“With “Puerto Rican Art: Image of a Culture,” CSM not only celebrates 25 years of its Puerto Rican Art Collection, it also celebrates the legacy of our artists and of the employees of our company who had the vision to carry out this important project,” explained René A. Campos Carbonell, CSM's President.
The Collection's original concept honored Masters of the 50's Generation, whose abundant artistic productivity had been all but forgotten. That was the reason the art acquisition project was initially directed toward the rescue of these artist's works. However, works by artists of later periods have also been included in recent years.
The Puerto Rican Art Collection of CSM represents a national sample of art of the greatest importance to the Island and has been appraised at more then $12 million. In addition, it is the centerpiece of an integrated educational and art promotional program without precedent in Puerto Rico.
